We take a deeper look, really figuring out the root cause of the latch issues. Our latch and pumping consultations are super detailed. Think of it as getting a customized eye prescription, but for your breastfeeding journey.

Our personalized plans will guide you through the postpartum journey, making sure you're ready for every milestone without any surprises. With our expert guidance and regular check-ins, you’ll feel supported every step of the way, all while staying within your insurance coverage.
3
IBCLCs who go the extra mile
We listen to you! We know you are the expert on yourself, your baby, and your family. This is why we always work with the parent to make a care plan and will not add something to the plan unless you tell us it is doable. You can also message us in our HIPAA-compliant texting app to change the plan or check in. We see this as doing the minimum. We go above and beyond by always assuming we could be wrong. We go to the drawing board if a plan, technique, or product is not working. This sometimes means buying a different product for the business, taking continuing education, or redoing assessments to double and triple check.
Your Body & Your Baby
You know your family, self, and baby best. We know pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding. We both know you could do this alone (you found this page after all, which means you are probably very capable and pretty badass!), but we both know postpartum is supposed to be a time of support and mentorship. You weren't meant to do a thesis on parenting, you were meant to bond with your family and have supportive people guide you through struggles.

FAQ
All the questions
Why is your breastfeeding help special?
Beyond being a lactation consultant (IBCLC), Ruth is a mom, birth doula, and postpartum doula. This means she has seen what happens before and after the care plan. She understands newborn parent life. This is why Birth to Breast support differs from other lactation consultants. Many parents will see a lactation consultant once for a specific aspect of feeding and be left with too many options to piece together.
At Birth to Breast we:
1. learn your priorities and goals
2. Assess your current feeding factors
3. Identify any obstacles to your goals
4. Create with follow up so you are not left to pick up the pieces
What is your role?
Our role is to be your helpful friend with knowledge on how latching, bottle-feeding, and pumping physiologically work. We listen and help you figure out how you can meet your ideal goals. We know you know more than you may believe. We’ll have real conversations to unlock this knowledge. Each encounter is a teaching opportunity and a chance for you to feel heard and empowered.
How do I pay for a lactation consultation? Do you take insurance?
Birth to Breast works with the lactation network to accept United Healthcare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield/Anthem PPO variations, Aetna, and Cigna PPO.

Do you check for Tongue/lip ties?
Oral function is a speciality of Birth to Breast. We assess your baby's reflexes, mapping, Range of movement, and endurance. Next, we note the structure of your baby's overall body, chin, jaw, palate, tongue, lips, and cheeks. We observe the function of all of above in relation to what a baby needs to do to nurse or bottle-feed. If any other specialities are needed we give you recommendations and guide you in what their support would look like and we recommend them. To learn more you can click here. Even when a baby has a tongue/lip tie we are usually able to get a more comfortable latch work on supply via techniques we specialize in.
Do you check my flanges for pumping?
Yes, too many parents have come to us after seeing people unfamiliar with pumping and proper flange fitting. Parents are usually amazed by how much the proper fitting flange can help. We have one of the most in-depth flange fitting processes in San Diego. To learn more, click here.
Do you come to my home?
Yes, I offer concierge in-home visits with a travel fee for PPO insurances, cash-pay, and Tricare families with Twins. This makes your life so much easier at any stage. When I come to you, you do not have to pack all your feeding tools, mess with the flow of your day for travel, or leave the comfort of your home. You can stay in your postpartum bubble and focus on your baby and yourself while I come to you. For clients who would like to avoid the travel fee I also have an office and specialize in virtual support.
